In this course, we provide evidence-based recommendations for neonatal nutrition with a focus on clinical practice in Africa. We discuss the nutritional needs of preterm and low birthweight (LBW) infants in a hospital setting, whilst also providing advice on preparation for discharge and their ongoing nutritional needs. We emphasise the critical role of mother’s own breast milk to reduce mortality and improve outcomes, and the importance of Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC).
